altA recent report by one of the most popular UK broadsheets has claimed that US casino operators Trump Entertainment Resorts and online gaming conglomerate 888 Holdings have been in talks regarding an online poker service, which 888 are keen to offer to the US market; this service would be offered once a regulated, official online gambling market is open and legal in the States.

The Founder of Trump Entertainment Resorts is of course the infamous Donald Trump, known for his appearances on TV shows including The Apprentice USA. Trump has been actively showing an interest in online gambling since October 2011, when he and Marc Lasry, a New York based hedge fund manager, announced joint plans to launch an Internet gaming company. Of course, this launch can’t occur until online gambling is legalised in the USA but it is something that the pair are actively planning. The partners would launch the new company through Trump Entertainment Resorts, which Donald Trump himself owns 10% interest in and Lasry’s own, Avenue Capital Group. Trumps Entertainment Company already own two land-based casinos in Atlantic City, New Jersey and they would have a further 10% share in this new venture with Lasry.

New Jersey is one of the flagship states looking to push through online casino wagering and gambling games. There are other States interested in the move but New Jersey is firmly at the forefront. They are currently hoping that legislation may be passed by the end of the current year.

Taking a closer look at 888’s intentions, they have had their eye on the US market since early 2011 having previously had a stake in the industry. The company had previously been involved in the US market but withdrew its involvement in 2006 after the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) was implemented. However, in January, 888 extended their involvement with Caesars Interaction Entertainment to include the US market, which shows their intentions to get themselves back involved once the industry is relaunched in the States. Once online poker is legalised in the USA, 888 are determined to be there, making the most of the opportunity.

888 Holdings operate both 888Bingo and 888Ladies, and are hugely successful across the UK with a huge market share and interest across all areas of online gambling from bingo to poker and much more. They are ready and willing for the impending changes to States laws in the USA and are bound to be one of the first brands providing online poker to companies including Trump Entertainment Resorts and Caesars Interaction Entertainment.

The changes in the US gambling laws will have a huge effect on the industry in general and we may see many of the top brands migrating and offering up an Americanised version of their UK products.
