Posh Bingo get off without a wrist slap by ASA

Posh BingoJust when we at Bingo Hideout thought that the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) would penalise practically any online bingo or gaming site, Posh Bingo manages to get away scott free!  Posh Bingo are now a rarity at the Advertising Standards Authority as they are a gambling site that hasn’t had a complaint upheld, and they have managed to restore some of our faith in the adjudication process.  Once more the complaint centred on the subject of the free play bonus cash at an online bingo site, this time though the online bingo site being targeted was Posh Bingo.

The complaint made against Posh Bingo was in relation to a television advertising campaign, where the online bingo site advertised the availability of £20 freeplay for new account holders at Posh Bingo. The advert stated that ‘Terms & conditions apply’ but the complainant felt that the advert was still misleading, as they believed that Posh Bingo did not clarify that a new account holder would need to ‘deposit and spend £20 before they could withdraw money’ clearly enough.  The ASA considered the complaint carefully and noted that the statement regarding terms and conditions was sufficient as to not mislead any prospective new Posh Bingo account holders.  The ASA stated in conclusion that after investigating  ‘the ad under CAP (Broadcast) TV Advertising Standards Code rules 5.1.1, 5.1.2 and 5.1.3 (Misleading advertising) but did not find it in breach’.

Bingo Hideout recently covered a story about Bingo Hero who had a complaint against them upheld by the ASA, this complaint was regarding free bingo games.  The decision by the ASA to uphold the complaint against Bingo Hero rang worrying alarm bells within the online bingo industry as very often sites offer free bingo bonus money as an incentive to open a new account.  Luckily the ASA has seen sense to consider the case brought against Posh Bingo on its own merits and have not taken the easy option of a knee jerk reaction.  Luckily Posh Bingo have not had their advertisement banned and other online bingo sites will now no doubt be breathing a sigh of relief as they will not all have to rethink their free bingo games promotions.  To read the full Posh Bingo adjudication follow the link.
