Tears, tantrums and bingo wins at Feltham Gala Bingo!

altThe Gala Bingo hall in Feltham recently hosted the regional 2011 Gala Bingo Championship semi-finals.  The event, according to the Hounslow Chronicle attracted over 3,000 players from across the south east, with all those taking part hoping to win a place in the final.  The Gala Bingo Championship final 2011 will be held in Gibraltar and will see the overall winner walking away with a massive prize of £100,000.

The excitement that the gathering players felt at the Feltham Gala Bingo hall last weekend was a far cry from the fiasco that took place there earlier in the year. Police were called to the same Gala Bingo hall one Thursday when two women became embroiled in a fracas that was deemed serious enough to warrant a police presence. The story published in the Chronicle at the time put the blame for the incident firmly on the consumption of too much alcohol.   The newspaper reported that one of the women had been asked to vacate the premises because she had been disturbing other players in the bingo hall. The woman allegedly then pushed into another customer when she was leaving, and when another player then came to her aid the drunk woman started a fight. Security was unable to contain the situation so called the police. No arrests were made but the two women involved were consequently banned from the Gala bingo hall.

A spoke person for the club Sarah mercer had this to say at the time; “incidents of this kind are very rare” and “This is a very unusual situation as our bingo clubs pride themselves on being a safe and secure environment.”

It is certainly a rare thing for such anti-social behaviour to occur at a bingo hall, the demographic is famous for being more of the grey-haired, mature variety. It is good to see an event like the Gala Bingo 2011 championships redressing the balance and putting a better slant on the world of bingo halls. The 3,000 or so semi finalists all behaved themselves and no doubt had a fun fuelled happy evening of bingo. The 14 local finalists will be enjoying a well earned break soon in Gibraltar this November to compete in the finals and hopefully one will win the big prize of 100,000 and the title of ‘Ultimate Player of 2011 Gala Bingo Champion. Let’s hope none of them will feel the need to pack a pair of boxing gloves for the event.
