News has reached Bingo Hideout that yet another bingo hall will close its doors. The Tivoli in Middleton, Leeds is currently owned by Top Ten Bingo Ltd but will close this Sunday unless an eleventh hour buyer can be found for the club.

The current members are extremely sad that the bingo hall will close as playing bingo at the Tivoli has become part of their lives. Some of the loyal bingo players have been going to the Tivoli for in excess of 50 years. Diminishing member numbers is probably one of the reasons for the closure, visitor numbers have dropped substantially from a peak of 2,500 per week to the current 500. The Tivoli was once a cinema but has provided bingo to the local community for the last 48 years and was considered in its heyday as a cornerstone of the community. Times have sadly changed and the local bingo community are devastated by the imminent closure as are the ten loyal staff that work at the Tivoli. The staff at the bingo hall all see working at the Tivoli as more of a public service than a job, providing an important centre for the local people, predominantly women a safe environment to play bingo, chat and generally have fun. Without the Tivoli a lot of the regular players will not be able to play their much loved game of bingo nor meet up with their friends.

Top Ten Holding Plc the third biggest chain of bingo clubs in the UK, have seen a dramatic drop in revenues over the last few years, from a company perspective it makes sense to make cuts and lose any part of the business that is loss making. Turnover for the company overall has gone down from £13.65m for year end 30 September 2007 to £11.58m for 2008, with anticipated losses increasing for 2009.

If there are any prospective buyers out there for the Acre Road bingo hall then offers in excess of £300,000 are expected.
